About This Coffee

This coffee is from the Karindundu factory located in the lowland region of Mount Kenya, 1 km from the town of Karatina in the Nyeri district of Kenya. It is produced by 513 active members (349 men, 164 women), each with an average of 300 trees and 0.5 acres. The coffee undergoes a traditional washed process where it is depulped, fermented overnight, washed, and then dried on raised beds. Farmers grow macadamia, bananas, corn, and beans alongside their coffee. Karindundu supports contributing farmers by advising them on the use of stable manure, pruning, and fertilizer application.

Coffee Pirates

Werner Savernik and Evelyn Priesch founded Coffee Pirates in 2012, establishing one of the first organic-certified third-wave roasteries in Vienna. Their philosophy is a fight against bad coffee, aiming to reintroduce the idea of roasting as a wonderful craft that highlights the unique flavors of different origins. They are deeply committed to building direct, long-term relationships with the farmers and cooperatives they source from.
