Fieldwork CoffeeAbout This Coffee
This coffee comes from Mugaya Coffee Factory, located near Kagumo in Kenya's Kirinyaga District within the Central Province. Established in 1975, the factory serves 924 active members farming an average of 200 coffee trees each. It operates under the Mutira Farmers Co-operative Society. The coffee grows at 1,570 meters elevation in red volcanic soil, shaded by grevillea, macadamia, avocado, and moringa trees. The region receives around 1,100mm annual rainfall with temperatures ranging from 12-26°C. Varieties include SL-28, SL-34, Ruiru-11, and Batian. Harvest occurs during the main crop season from October to December and a fly crop from March to May. Processing follows the traditional Kenyan washed method with disc pulping, fermentation, washing, and sun-drying on raised beds. The factory partners with Coffee Management Services (CMS) for training and sustainable farming support. The cup profile features blackberry, raspberry, lime, pineapple, and maple syrup notes with graceful, elegant vibrancy.

Fieldwork Coffee
Tim Williams founded this modern Australian micro-roastery in 2015 (originally as Bureaux, rebranded in 2022) with a mission to champion what he believes are the world's best coffees. Fieldwork's philosophy focuses exclusively on washed process coffees, prizing clarity, sweetness, and sense of place across their entire range. Williams' approach emphasizes connecting customers with conscientiously grown, seasonally sourced coffees that speak clearly to their origins, representing the farmers who nurture these exceptional beans.
